A useful LSAT wrong answer journal explains why your choice failed to answer the question—not just why the credited answer sounds plausible. Record your first reasoning, identify the precise failure, and test the lesson on fresh material. Download the free CSV or use the original example below to build a smaller paper version.
After a timed set, revisit questions you missed or felt uncertain about without the clock. Write down the task and your reasons for keeping or rejecting each finalist. Preserve the original timed choice. If you change it, record what changed your mind.
This separates a time-pressure problem from an unresolved reasoning problem. An untimed correction can suggest that pacing affected the attempt, but it does not prove that timing was the only cause. Guessing correctly during review is still guessing. Use official LawHub material when you want authentic questions and the official interface.
Suppose a library introduces automated reminders and then observes fewer late returns. Its director concludes that reminders caused the reduction. A question asks which new fact most weakens that causal claim. Consider two candidate facts: A, some patrons dislike automated messages; B, the library also extended every loan period during the same month.
B offers another explanation for the decline: longer loans can change whether a return counts as late. A describes a reaction to the messages but does not directly explain the lower late-return count. Neither fact proves reminders had no effect. Weakening a conclusion does not require proving the opposite.
Use error labels that lead to different repairs
A label is useful only when it changes your next task. “Logical Reasoning” is a section name, not an explanation. “I attacked a premise when the question asked for an inference” identifies a task mismatch you can practice recognizing.

Task mismatch
I evaluated truth when asked about the role of a sentence.
Restate several question stems in ordinary language.
Argument gap
I treated a correlation as sufficient for causation.
Name a competing explanation before reading choices.
Scope shift
I accepted a claim about all cases from evidence about some.
Mark quantifiers and compare the strength of each claim.
Incomplete comparison
I chose the first plausible option without testing the other finalist.
Write why each finalist does or does not perform the requested task.
Keep references, not a copied question bank
Save the test, section and question reference so you can return to material through an authorized source. Your journal needs your reasoning and correction, not a redistributed copy of proprietary questions. Do not publish screenshots or full question text in a shared sheet without permission.
The free CSV contains an invented example and blank rows. Its fields are a starting point. Delete a column you never use; add a question-type label if it helps you find repeated errors. Avoid turning review into a transcription exercise.
Use a new question that requires the same distinction. Before viewing the explanation, write the task, conclusion and reason for rejecting your closest alternative. Compare the quality of that reasoning with your earlier entry.
Do not convert success on an untimed review set into a predicted score gain. The useful result is narrower: you can now explain a distinction you previously missed. Continue using appropriately timed official practice to assess the broader testing experience.
Put it to work
Finish one review entry
Use a missed question or a correct answer you guessed.
State the exact task in your own words.
Record the reason your chosen answer seemed attractive.
Explain its failure and the credited answer’s advantage.
Choose fresh material to test the correction; keep the result separate from the original attempt.
